England Rugby Team needed a bespoke solution


DCLX were asked to design and install a custom hanging bracket for an LED video wall at Penny Hill Park which is the England rugby teams training ground. Our client had been asked to install the screen to display metrics and analytic pitch side to the players during training sessions.
 
We were contacted as an 'off the shelf' solution didn't exist, so they needed a bespoke solution.
 
The Brief - Custom Video wall

The brief was to design a solution to attach the screen to the existing fabric of the structure and incorporate the England Rugby team branding. Our design included hanging the specified panels of video wall and convection cooling which would be able to withstand the force of direct hits from errant rugby balls.

Here's our solution in pictures to solve the problem, showing the design, installation and finished video wall which is robust enough to absorb a miss kick or two.

The Brief - Sky Sponsored VIP Lounge Lighting

Our client's brief was to provide permanent lighting in the Sky sponsored backstage VIP lounge. They needed to reinvigorate the space and create an engaging experience for guests. The moment guests entered the space they would engage with the ambience created by the light and the brand. Whilst wowing guests on entering the VIP lounge, they would be continually enthralled by the space until showtime.

A Multimedia Lighting Challenge

We wanted the VIP space to feel unique, chic, a warm inviting place to be, that would be exciting and create a buzz. And we were mindful that because it''s a Sky sponsored lounge, it must be media friendly too. So all lighting had to look great to both the naked eye and on video or camera, for social media photos of guests.

Coupled with these challenges, the equipment and control had to be compatible with a Cue system touch panel control and Mode Lighting show control system.

Our Lighting Solution

With the brief in mind and the technical challenges, we got to work and got creative. The thought that underpinned the whole project was to create an environment for the 'Perfect Selfie'.

Thinking about the space as the perfect VIP location for a professional photo-shoot inspired us to create key lighting as well as bold and innovative lighting design. We resolved to ensure each space stood out, had its own personality and would inspire guests, enticing them to engage with the space. We ensured each area looked stunning both to the eye and on camera and blended with the brand and the larger space.

Before and After

Previously the bar had been boldly lit in contrasting colours with unattractive movements. Other areas of activation were minimalistically lit, so guest would frequently overlook the space.

We employed a creative a design that achieved the brief's objectives and by using LED light sources, achieved energy savings too. We reduced maintenance and managed heat levels lower in the space which previously became uncomfortably hot when busy. The install was completed in time for big name acts completing tours following the festival season.
